Very Old Meatloaf Recipe image

At present time (2012), this is a 207-year-old meatloaf recipe, that has been handed down through our family since my great-great-grandmother back in 1807. It may be older than this, but that's as far back as I can trace it. Originally it was made using deer meat, but I prefer using beef as did my Mother. Enjoy.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 small Granny Smith apple, diced
  • 1 egg

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Mix ground beef with water and milk in a large bowl using your hands until beef is evenly moistened.
  • Mix bread crumbs, onion, carrot, apple, and egg into the beef mixture until evenly integrated.
  • Form the beef mixture into a loaf.
  • Transfer the meatloaf to a deep baking dish; tent with a sheet of aluminum foil.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour; remove foil tent and bake until no longer pink the center, about 30 minutes more.

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 2 ½ cups crushed butter-flavored crackers
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 eggs
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar
  • 2 slices bacon
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • ¾ teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, mix together ground beef, crushed crackers, onion, eggs, 3/4 cup ketchup, and 1/4 cup brown sugar until well blended. Press into a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Lay the two slices of bacon over the top.
  • Bake for 1 hour in the preheated oven, or until cooked through. While the loaf bakes, mix together the remaining 1 cup ketchup, vinegar, salt, mustard and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Spread over the top of the meat loaf for the last 15 minutes of baking.

  • 1 lb hamburger
  • 1/4 lb ground pork
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 teaspoons mustard
  • 4 tablespoons onions, minced
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup tomato juice
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs, dry
  • 1 tablespoon horseradish (optional)
  • 1/8 cup breadcrumbs

Steps:

  • Mix hamburger, ground pork, salt, pepper, mustard, onion, egg, sour cream, tomato juice, 1 cup breadcrumbs, and horseradish if using, well.
  • Sprinkle 1/8 cup breadcrumbs on top.
  • Bake 45 minutes at 375 degrees Fahrenheit or until done.
