Top Asked Questions

  1. What is traditional raita?
Traditional Raita is an Indian condiment made with yogurt, fresh vegetables and spices. It is served as a side and relished for its cooling effect when eating spicy foods. My recipe includes cucumbers, serrano peppers and mint. We’ve been enjoying a lot of curry recipes in the Chili Pepper Madness household lately.
  2. How to make Indian savory Raita recipe?
Begin first by beating or whisking 1 cup of fresh full fat curd until smooth. Then make a basic Indian savory raita recipe by adding ⅓ cup finely chopped onions and ⅓ cup finely chopped cucumber. Optionally you can add some tomatoes. Add fresh herbs like 1 to 2 tablespoons of chopped coriander (cilantro) or mint leaves.
  3. What to serve with Cucumber Raita?
Most Indian recipes work well together, this cooling cucumber raita recipe would be great to cool off your favorite spicy Indian recipes like chicken tandoori, rice biryanis, chicken korma or lentil dahls. Naan would also be a delicious side option as would other vegetarian Indian dishes like saag paneer or vegetable korma.
  4. What is Raita made of yogurt?
Raita is an Indian condiment made of yogurt, chopped veggies, and herbs. It’s often served with spicy dishes, as the yogurt has cooling properties that can save your tastebuds from the fire of chilies. (via My Food Story)

  • Avocado Raita. If you're craving guacamole but not in the mood for Mexican, avocado raita is right up your alley. It's the Indian version of guacamole and could be the starting point for a fusion sort of meal.
  • Palak Ka Raita. Raitas can be incredibly simple dishes, but Indian cuisine is so often generously spiced that it only makes sense to add a magnitude of flavor via some aromatic ingredients.
  • Seasoned Eggplant Raita. There's something about charred eggplant that takes this particular raita to the next level. It's almost a combination of baba ganoush, the Middle Eastern spread, and Indian raita, and it works in so many ways: as a dip with pita chips, over some simple basmati rice, or as a topping for any form of spicy and hot meat entree.
